BurnSim 3 is retired
BurnSim 3 is no longer available for download and is no longer being developed. Version 3.3.10 was the last release. Your BurnSim 3 license carries over to BurnSim 4 at no cost.
If you already have BurnSim 3 installed
It keeps working, and it will keep working. BurnSim 3 checks its license against your own machine and never contacts our server to do it, so nothing we retire can switch it off. You do not have to move across on any particular schedule.
What is no longer possible is activating BurnSim 3 on a new machine. The BurnSim 3 activation server has been retired and no longer issues keys — if you ask BurnSim 3 to activate, it will tell you so and point you here. Use BurnSim 4 instead: the same license covers it, at no cost.
Moving to BurnSim 4
- Download and install BurnSim 4. It installs as a separate program alongside BurnSim 3 and leaves your saved motors and propellant database alone.
- Activate it from Help → Activate BurnSim using the same details you registered BurnSim 3 with. There is nothing to buy and nothing to transfer.
- Your
.bsxmotor files open in BurnSim 4 as they are. BurnSim 4 keeps its own propellant database, so running both side by side will not let the older version strip the newer propellant fields out of shared entries.
See how to activate BurnSim if you need the longer version, or get in touch if your BurnSim 3 details no longer work.
What BurnSim 4 adds
BurnSim 4 is a full rewrite on a modern codebase, and it runs on macOS and Linux as well as
Windows. Beyond that: an interactive 3-D grain view with burn-back animation, propellant
thermochemistry that computes C* and molar mass from an ingredient recipe, erosive burning, measured
burn rate data kept against the propellant itself, openMotor .ric import, a custom grain
type you draw or import, and nozzle geometry that actually affects thrust. The
change history lists every release.
