BurnSim for macOS
=================

It ships in two versions - the folder you unzipped says which one you have:

  * ...-macos-arm64 Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or later, 2020 onward)
  * ...-macos-x64    Intel Macs

If you are on Apple Silicon, prefer the arm64 package - it runs natively.
The Intel package will also run there via Rosetta 2, but there is no
reason to choose it.

BurnSim requires macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later.

Installing
----------
Drag BurnSim.app to your Applications folder and double-click it.

That is all. BurnSim is signed with BURNSIM LLC's Apple Developer ID and
notarized by Apple, so macOS clears it on first launch - including with
no internet connection, because the notarization ticket travels inside
the app. No Terminal commands, and no "Open Anyway" trip through System
Settings.

Replacing BurnSim.app with a newer version is the same drag, and your
settings and propellants are untouched by it (see below).

If macOS refuses to open it
---------------------------
This should not happen. If it does, the most likely cause is a download
or unzip problem rather than anything about your Mac.

"BurnSim is damaged and can't be opened" - almost always an incomplete
download or an archive that has been unpacked and repacked by another
tool. Download the zip again and unzip it by double-clicking it in
Finder, which is what macOS's own unarchiver handles correctly. Some
third-party unzip utilities discard file metadata that the app's
signature depends on.

"Apple cannot check it for malicious software", or "the developer cannot
be verified" - same answer: re-download, and unzip with Finder. A
genuine BurnSim download does not produce this.

If a fresh download unzipped with Finder still will not open, that is a
real bug and we want to hear about it - please write to
burnsim@burnsim.com with your macOS version, whether your Mac is Apple
Silicon or Intel, and the exact wording of the message.

Where your files live
---------------------
Settings, activity logs, the propellant database, and license data are
stored under:

    ~/Library/Application Support/BurnSim/

Replacing BurnSim.app with a newer version leaves that folder alone, so
your propellants and settings survive an upgrade.

Reporting problems
------------------
Activity logging is on by default (Settings > Log Activity for Bug
Reports). If something goes wrong, please send the newest file from

    ~/Library/Application Support/BurnSim/logs/

along with what you were doing, to burnsim@burnsim.com. Please include
your macOS version and whether your Mac is Apple Silicon or Intel.
